Essentials when trail running.
I do not wear much when running but what I do take is truly essential to me:-
1. Shoes- Inov-8, I love the X-Talon range, the grip is phenomenal. I race in the 235's, 225's, 212's or 210's.
2. Compression socks- 2XU, I have been running with them since 2011 and have never looked back, not only do they give great compression but also protect my legs from scratches and bruises ex. I wear the longs for recovery at night when I sleep.
3. Hot Pants- Boost, less is more, track and road athletes all wear briefs, less chafing and they dry super fast when I have done a river crossing.
4.Sports bra- A girl needs support and do not want to be bouncing around.
5.Hydration pack- Ultraspire Spry or the Ultimate Direction Trail Vest, I love these small pocket rockets. They are compact but I have done 100km races in them.
In my Hydration pack I always have: a Phone (these days you get mini phones), Medical Kit (includes space blanket, blister plaster, strap bandage, anti histamine, cable ties, tampon, medical aid details), cash, buff, food (I like a variety from chews to gels to racefoods), water ( 250ml per hour), cramp block tablets and at least a windproof. In winter I also carry a base layer and will have a waterproof jacket and now that I am older also take warm waterproof gloves.
6. GPS watch- Suunto 9. If I go on a unfamiliar route I will always try and load GPX file.
7. Sunglasses- Rudy Projects.
8. A Cap- Essential not only does it keep sun out of my eyes it also keeps the sweat from pouring down my face and when it rains keeps water away from my eyes.
9. Sun block and anti chafe always get applied before a run.
10. Spot Gen 4 tracker, the knowledge that I can be helped anywhere in the world gives me peace of mind.
That is me. I like to go as light as possible without compromising on quality and safety.
