Hubby.

I am by nature not a competitive person, I am an optimist and hate confrontation. I am a free spirited hippie that is easy going.
My hubby is always challenging the norm, very competitive, things are either black or white and he is definitely a pessimist. He likes things to be perfect and has a bit of OCD.

So how does two people seemingly so different stay married for 30 years.
Easy: We love each other and together we make the best team ever.

I cannot speak for him but I know that he brings out the best in me. His unwavering believe in me is the only reason I can be competitive, there is no such thing as can't in his vocabulary. He is constantly telling me I can and is the person that tells me that I have the potential to be great, may it be art, personal training, being in corporate world or running. Everything I do he is deeply invested in, if I do a race he will know everything there is to know from the profile to everyone competing. He makes sure I arrive at the starting line as prepared as possible and he has been at every race I have ever done, sometimes at great cost to himself not only because of his disability but he also struggles with anxiety.

He is also the one that has advocated for my rights as a women and when people have tried to take advantage of me he makes me stand up to them. Him being a pessimist has taken me to some interesting places as he sees the problem before it is there, he believes one should be prepared as much as possible. I became a lifeguard at 36 because he wanted one of us to be able to help our son if he got into trouble when he surfed. Last year I did a firefighting course so that I could be equipped to help if needs be. I always arrive at any run with a full medical kit, cell phone, waterproof and enough water and food.

He pushes boundaries, challenges people to see outside the box and is always cheering, he sees the potential in everyone. He has taught me to simplify my life (not an easy thing to do) and that less is more. His OCD might drive me dilly sometimes but I know his obsession is only driven by the need to give us the best.
