The movie bombed before it became immortal

When it first hit theaters in 1975, it flopped hard. Critics were baffled, audiences stayed away, and it looked doomed to vanish into the velvet dark.

Then came the midnight screenings.

A strange tribe formed — people shouting lines at the screen, dressing as characters, throwing rice, newspapers, toast, toilet paper. The audience became part of the show. Cinema turned into ritual.

Now it’s considered the longest-running theatrical release in film history.

The Time Warp escaped containment entirely.

It became:a dance craze,a Halloween anthem, a theater ritual and a wedding-party emergency button.

The dance instructions are literally built into the lyrics, which is probably why drunk humans worldwide continue to succeed at it.
